North Ainslie Primary School
Welcome
Welcome to North Ainslie Primary School, a community based school situated in the inner north of Canberra. As an International Baccalaureate (IB) school we pride ourselves on educating the whole child, with an emphasis on looking globally, and having our students build a better world through intercultural understanding and respect. With strong programs in literacy and numeracy, we focus on inquiry learning where our students think critically and work together to challenge themselves. We actively teach, and celebrate, the attributes of the IB Primary Years Program to ensure our students are: Inquirers, Thinkers, Communicators, Knowledgeable, Principled, Open-minded, Caring, Risk-takers, Balanced and Reflective. We have a school culture that is open, caring and community based. We welcome all members of our community into our school and classrooms as we work together for the benefit of our students.
This community spirit is embodied by the way in which we work with our Board and P and C and volunteer organisations from our area. We have an excellent volunteer program with community members coming regularly to the school to work with students in our classrooms. Our student welfare is based on positive and caring relationships with our students, our behaviour management policy and restorative practices being used across the school.
North Ainslie Primary was established in 1958 and continues to be a proud hub for our community. The school has two preschool sites, one at North Ainslie Primary School and one in Hackett. Our preschools provide an outstanding foundation for learning with their play based programs based on the Early Years Framework. Kindergarten to year 6 classes build on this foundation with our inquiry learning, literacy and numeracy and excellent arts programs which include a visual arts specialist, year 5 and 6 bands, and regular participation in the Northside Spectacular. Our Healthy Eating Hub works with our canteen to provide opportunities to work in our vegetable gardens and learn about cooking and eating healthy food. Students also participate in French classes and have regular opportunities to take part in sporting events and clinics. The school has two Introductory Education Classes and a small group program which reflect the diverse and inclusive nature of our school.
Our school works hard to meet the needs of each child with an emphasis on differentiating the curriculum and providing a range of opportunities in a variety of curriculum areas. We promote growth in learning for all students and work collaboratively with families to achieve this outcome. We welcome enquiries from all families who live in our Priority Enrolment Area (PEA) and want you to know that our door is always open.
