COVID-19 safety at our school

COVID Safety Plan

Drawing on national and local health advice we have developed a return to school plan which has three key priorities:

  • the health and safety of staff and young people
  • the mental and emotional well-being of students and staff, and
  • ensuring continuity of learning.

This letter sent to our school community sets out our school’s plan for implementing ACT Health Guidelines to ensure effective COVID-19 measures are in place when students return to on campus learning in term 4, 2021.

Indoor Air Quality Plan

ACT Health has advised schools to optimise fresh air circulation to reduce the risk of COVID-19 transmission. The risk of transmission is higher in crowded and poorly ventilated spaces where people spend long periods of time together in close proximity. Good ventilation is one part of a suite of measures to minimise transmission in schools, like vaccination, physical distancing, good hygiene, cleaning and mask use.

The Chief Health Officer, the Australian Health Protection Principal Committee, World Health Organisation and Safe Work Australia all recommend good indoor air quality to reduce the chance of COVID-19 transmission.

There are easy and quick changes that are being made in ACT public schools, including our school, to improve ventilation and fresh air circulation. The simplest of these is opening windows in classrooms and turning on the exhaust fans in rooms that have them.

A detailed investigation has been undertaken of our school, including a technical assessment of HVAC systems and our ability to control fresh air.

Our school’s Indoor Air Quality Plan includes a list of actions we have already undertaken and actions our school will undertake each day to ensure good indoor air quality for our students and staff.
